How to Play Part 6 - Hiding and Maneuvering

Now you will learn how to hide and maneuver:

1) Start a real mission by pressing the Play Real Mission button. Get close to the enemy and let them in the yellow range.

2) You will see a P value written as P13.4, P5.2 etc. on the right bottom side of the screen. This value indicates your pressure balance. If this value stays below 1.0 it means that your compressor cannot work efficiently.

3) Press the Deep  button (or the V key) and dive to 250m. You will see that the pressure balance will stabilize around 1.05 which is near the limits. It is very risky to go below this point. But sometimes you may need to hide deeper.

4) Press the blue colored Dmp2 button (or the Y key) and your submarine will release some weight. You will see that the button writes Dmp1 (now instead of Dmp2) and the P value has increased. Now you can dive deeper by pressing the blue down arrow button (or the B key). Adjust your target depth to 300m (which you should see under the Dmp button). Now your submarine can dive deeper but the downside is that its diving speed is reduced.

5) At this point if you go below 300m your submarine will sit at the seabed (which is near 355m all through out this game). You can go as deep as this to avoid heavy attacks. When the enemy goes away you must dump weights one more time by pressing Dmp1 which will become Dmp0 and your submarine will slowly surface. After dumping the second weights, your submarine will loose its ability to dive. So you should consider using it as your last escape chance.

6) At 300m or even deeper, you may maneuver right under the enemy but you must still be careful with your red and orange ranges. Your passive sonar will give enough accuracy to detect targets. You may hunt the ships with your torpedoes.

7) In this game there is a sound channel below 200m which will fairly shield you. Your red range may even become invisible below 300m. But beware that using your engines at flank speed will create a huge noise which will even tunnel through the sound channel.

8) If you are surfaced and need to make a sudden dive, you need to press the blue Brs button (or the N key). The Brs button bursts air out and takes in water very quickly. It will save about 5 to 10 seconds compared to normal diving. The downside is that after the burst, surfacing will be slower. Your submarine will slowly replace the burst air back once it surfaces. You should avoid bursting air if you are hit or likely to get hit.

The next post will be about attacking.
